Or…

Have you ever done something and then spent the rest of the day thinking if you did it well enough?

I am sure we both did it sometimes in our lives… and if someone says they didn’t, they probably lie about other things too.

Let’s talk about self-doubt today, and see if we can crush it.

Self-doubt is quite normal when dealing with a new situation or perhaps a high-stress experience.

Although it is a common thing, it doesn’t have to hold us back.

So, the trick to a happy life is to acknowledge when self-doubt is creeping in and try to break through it.

If you are not sure what self-doubt is, it can be described as a feeling of uncertainty one experiences about themselves.

These feelings can happen during times of pressure, new experiences, or even for no reason at all.

The cause of self-doubt can arise from past trauma, stress, pressure, or a generally low level of self-esteem.

Regardless of the reason, understanding and learning to break through the feeling is the key to personal growth and a happy life.

Now that we understand a little more about the feeling we all experience at times, let me share with you 5 TIPS to help you overcome or at least understand and slowly break through self-doubt.

Common Causes of Self-Doubt

The fear of failing or falling short is one of the main causes of self-doubt. Another cause is the fear of doing well or of success, as silly as that may seem. For some, past experiences or traumas can lead to chronic self-doubt and low self-esteem. For others, there is no real cause, and chronic self-doubt is simply a state of mind that can be unlearned.

Contemplate Your Glorious Past

Instead of focusing on what you think you cannot achieve, spend time thinking about your past accomplishments. There are hundreds of things that you accomplished in your life. By focusing on the negative aspect of things, we tend to forget all about them, so let’s shift the focus and remember those. When you take a step back from the current moment to look into the lessons from the past, it will be easier to move forward.

Stop Comparing Yourself To Other People

One of the worst things you can do is compare yourself to others. Be it a celebrity or a sibling, comparing your life to someone else is a foolproof way to get entangled in self-doubt. No two paths are the same in life, so it is impossible to compare. Instead, compare your choices from today to those of your past. Look at your growth from then till now and keep looking forward to the future.

Learn Compassion For Yourself

If you don’t address it, self-doubt will keep you from achieving your goals, being happy, and will ruin your life. To break the habit, you need to make perhaps some time for a little self-compassion. We truly can become our worst enemies. Forgiving yourself for your past “mistakes” might be the key to loosening the pressure and helping you start new each day. Once you start to forgive yourself for your shortcomings, it will be easier to stop doubting each decision you need to make. Remember that whatever you do, you are doing the best you can. So, go for it!

Build A Support System

You must surround yourself with people who will build you up. There is plenty of negativity in the world and in our own minds that if we don’t protect ourselves from it will take over our life. So surround yourself with positive influences to help break the cycle. Sometimes all you need is a bit of positive reinforcement to help you break through the negativity that comes from self-doubt.

I hope this all makes sense and gives you a little clarity on how to go about it if you’re experiencing some self-doubt at times.
