For You, the 5 Strategies that will help you to Build Resilience

Resilience is a skill that is extremely helpful in all aspects of life. I don’t know where I would be if life didn’t teach me to be resilient. Whether you are trying to overcome a personal obstacle or a difficult workplace, being a resilient person can only be beneficial. In fact, the skill offers a range of benefits from reduced stress levels to better control of emotions. To help you build your resilience so you can experience the benefits, I’ve put together 5 strategies that you should try.

1. Practice gratitude
Resilience is all about being able to bounce back and overcome the obstacles that life throws our way. One way to improve in this area is to practice gratitude. By focusing on the good things in your life, you will gain some perspective that will help you to manage difficulties.

2. Practice mindfulness
Mindfulness is a type of meditation that helps you to focus on the present. This is especially useful when it comes to resilience as it can help us control our emotions. Rather than letting our minds run wild with all of the ‘what ifs’, we can bring our thoughts back to the current situation, including the things that we can control rather than what we cannot.

3. Making self-reflection your best friend
Practicing a habit of self-reflection is important with any type of self-development and that includes building your resilience. When you are faced with a difficult conversation or situation, spend some time that evening or over the next few days reflecting on your response. Assess your behavior and identify what you could have done differently. Use this information to guide your future behavior, although remember that you won’t always be perfect, especially while you are learning. Continuous reflection will help you to develop more quickly and is a good habit to develop.

4. Re-train your mind
We can fall into the trap of negative thinking and this can impact our resilience. It is human to have negative thoughts when faced with a bad situation, but the ability to adjust these thoughts will help you in your ability to overcome obstacles. Rather than submitting to these thoughts, adjust them so that they are in a problem-solving format. You don’t want to eliminate these thoughts completely as that would just suppress the emotion, but turning them into action will help you to get your power back.

5. Invest in self-care
Resilience is often most needed when we are going through a tough situation. Remember to invest in self-care and to reward yourself for wins. Why? Because you are the most important person in the whole universe. ;-)

Reach out to me if you are finding it hard to follow through on any of the 5 strategies mentioned above. You are NOT alone!

As always this is a place to help us understand, a place to understand each other, and a place to understand ourselves. And given that I don’t know if you’re reading this at the start or the end of your day it is still a day nonetheless… a day to love, to dream, and to live. Farewell!
